My favourite thing about being at university is doing a course I love whilst I am learning so many skills that will be useful for my career and also for life!

Living in residence on campus you become like a family, living with people who are going through the same thing as you – you get moral support.

Being raised in care – I have always promised myself that I would help people who didn’t have a voice and that if I had the chance to go onto Higher Education I would use my qualifications to help other people.

“I thought you had to get A*’s but it turns out that you can get ahead with A* to C grades – this has really changed my mind – there are loads of opportunities for the future for real jobs!”

It’s built her confidence in a massive way, for me there wasn’t the opportunity of going to university because there was no one there to help me. She’s been given so much help and support to reach her full potential which she is doing and she is thoroughly enjoying it.

There’s so many opportunities for everybody you have just got to make that opportunity happen and look further into what you want to do .

If I was going to give one piece of advice to someone who is thinking about going to university, I would say – don’t let things stand in your way, take the opportunities which are there for you

"The Medical Mavericks team came into school as part of the Make Happen programme. It’s fantastic to see the students so enthusiastic. It has opened their eyes and given them an insight into other avenues they can take - there are jobs in the medical field that I didn’t know existed!

"There are loads of careers that are more achievable to get in with A* - C grades – so you don’t have to be a genius to do amazing healthcare careers"
